๐๏ธ Candle Storage
Candles last for years when stored well โ and warp, fade, or lose their scent when stored badly. This hub covers how to store every candle type, the containers that help, and the climate conditions that matter.
Why candle storage matters
Candles look sturdy but they're sensitive to their environment. Heat warps pillars and tapers, sunlight fades colored wax, and humidity can make wicks damp and hard to light. Scented candles slowly lose fragrance if left open, and unscented candles can absorb odors from whatever they're stored near.
Good storage is mostly about three things: cool, dark, and upright. Get those right and your candles will keep their shape, color, and scent for years.
Temperature, light, and humidity
Store candles between roughly 50ยฐF and 80ยฐF โ avoid attics, garages, and cars, which swing hot and cold. Keep them out of direct sunlight, which is the fastest way to fade color and warp soft waxes. A dry environment is best; damp basements can leave wicks hard to light.
If you live somewhere warm, keep candles in the coolest interior room rather than a sun-facing shelf. For scented candles, a sealed container helps lock in fragrance and keep dust off.
Organizing a candle collection
Store candles upright and separated by type so tapers don't bend and colors don't transfer onto each other. Group by scent family and keep scented and unscented candles apart โ fragrance can migrate. Label boxes by type and occasion so you can find what you need without digging.
Dedicated candle storage boxes and organizers make this easy, but simple cardboard boxes with dividers work too. The goal is order and protection, not a specialty product.
